Twenty-One firefighters battled a fire at a Greenwich recycling plant yesterday morning (15 Jan), the second fire in at the site in the space of a week.

The fire service was called out to Murphy’s Waste facility in Horn Link Way, where 400 tonnes of mixed waste is sorted on site, of which around 10 percent was believed to be alight.

Fire crews from Greenwich, East Greenwich and Plumstead fire stations were at the scene and brought the blaze under control later that morning.

Just four days ago, another fire broke out at the same plant, which took more than five hours to bring under control.

The cause of that fire is still under investigation.
