Mayor Of London Now Recruiting For LWARB Chair

sadiq-khan-1The recruitment of a new Chair of the London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB) has started.

The role will be crucial in delivering the Mayor’s (pictured) ambitions to reinvigorate recycling and accelerate the transition to a circular economy in London. The successful candidate will be someone with proven interest and experience in areas including the circular economy, green finance, recycling and materials recovery and climate change mitigation.

The new Chair will play a vital leadership role in delivering the Mayor of London’s priorities, including:

  • getting London back on track to reaching a 65% recycling rate by 2030
  • creating jobs in re-use, repair, remanufacturing and materials innovation to
support London’s transition to the circular economy; and
  • London becoming a zero carbon city by 2050.
The Mayor of London has decided to find a new Chair via an open recruitment process in order to attract someone who has the best combination of skills and expertise to take his important agenda forward.
The Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, Shirley Rodrigues, has been appointed by the Mayor of London as his independent Board member, while further fresh perspectives will be given by London Councils’ recent appointment of two new
members to the Board: Cllr Feryal Demirci from London Borough of Hackney and Cllr Ian Wingfield from the London Borough of Southwark.

Wayne Hubbard, LWARB Chief Operating Officer, said: “This is an amazing opportunity to help to transition London into being a global leader in circular economy implementation. LWARB is developing a world class programme and we need a highly talented individual to help lead that change and assist in making LWARB a self sustaining organisation.”

“We’re also delighted that current Board members Cllr Bassam Mahfouz (Ealing), Cllr Nicholas Paget-Brown (Kensington & Chelsea), Barbara Anderson and Melville Haggard will be staying with us on the Board to provide continuity,” he added.
