Morrisons Aims To Boost Recycling With New Wine Screw Cap

Morrisons will become the first major retailer in the UK to trial environmentally-friendly wine screw cap that will make the bottle easier to recycle.

Green Leaf cap, manufactured by Italian company Enoplastic, uses the same technology and materials as a standard screw cap, but contains 64 percent less aluminium and can be completely removed to aid recycling.

It also promises to cut transport emissions as Morrisons says could reduce the size of cap shipments by around 60 percent.

It will be trialled on 75cl bottles of the supermarket’s own brand Soave wine.

The caps have been piloted in Italy, Australia, and New Zealand.

Morrisons’ beer, wine and spirits (BWS) category director, Steve Mosey, said: “This new launch is proof of our ambition to drive innovation in the category which our BWS team has worked hard to keep fresh and relevant to our customers.

“We are proud to take responsibility for our own carbon reduction while keeping prices low… customers will notice no difference between the new product and the Morrisons Soave they know and love”.
