Murder Investigation After Worker Found Dead At Waste Site

Lancashire Police Detectives  have arrested a man on suspicion of murder, following the discovery of a body at a Burnley waste site on Monday (27 July). 

Stephen Whitehead, 49, was discovered at the business premises of Pendle Skips on Balderstone Close where he is thought to be a casual employee.

A post mortem examination has established that he died as a result of extensive head injuries.

Police were called by the Ambulance Service after the man was discovered at the premises in Burnley at around 8am on Monday.

“Specialist officers are supporting his family at this difficult time and I would urge anyone with information about this man’s death to please get in contact with us at your earliest opportunity”

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Det Supt Paul Withers of the Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT) said: “We have a large team of detectives dedicated to this investigation and finding out exactly how Stephen Whitehead came about these injuries and the circumstances which led to his death.

“Specialist officers are supporting his family at this difficult time and I would urge anyone with information about this man’s death to please get in contact with us at your earliest opportunity.”

Detectives investigating his death announced today (29 July) that an arrest has been made.

A 34 year old Burnley man was arrested on suspicion of murder this morning and is currently in custody.
