Karl Falkenberg is to be replaced as the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment to assume the role of Senior Adviser for Sustainable Development at the European Political Strategy Centre (EPSC).
From September 1, Falkenberg will join the EU authority’s in-house thinktank, the Commission has announced.
Senior managers at the EU authority are required to change jobs every five years, with exceptions allowed only under special circumstances.
Falkenberg will be succeeded as Director-General of the Environment DG by Daniel Calleja Crespo (pictured).
Calleja, a Spanish citizen, is currently Director-General for the Commission’s DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. Previously, he held the positions of Deputy Director-General of DG Enterprise and Industry as well as Director for Air Transport at the EU Commission.
