With two weeks to go until Scotland’s carrier bag charge comes into force, Zero Waste Scotland is reminding retailers and shoppers to get ready for the 5p charge, which applies to all single-use carrier bags from 20 October.

Retailers can visit Zero Waste Scotland’s website to find out more about how the charge will work, and tools including a staff training video and customisable materials for customer-facing communications, for example artwork for posters and till receipts.

Iain Gulland, Zero Waste Scotland – “Single-use bags are a highly visible item of litter which blights our streets and seas – and the Carrier Bag Charge is an important anti-litter measure which will help cut the number of single-use bags in circulation”

Iain Gulland, director, Zero Waste Scotland said: “With two weeks to go until the Carrier Bag Charge comes into effect, Zero Waste Scotland is reminding retailers and shoppers alike to be prepared.

“Retailers can visit our dedicated website for a host of useful tools and materials, and shoppers should remember to bring their re-usable bags when they pop to the shops after 20 October.

“Single-use bags are a highly visible item of litter which blights our streets and seas – and the Carrier Bag Charge is an important anti-litter measure which will help cut the number of single-use bags in circulation.”
