Three Workers Taken Ill Following Chemical Spill At Recycling Plant

A chemical spill at a recycling centre in Midlothian near Edinburgh has left three workers affected and has meant the closure of Stobhill Road for health and safety fears.

The chemical spill is being investigated after three workers at the plant have reportedly been taken ill this morning (5 August).

Midlothian council confirmed it is investigating the incident at the Stobhill household Waste Recycling Centre in Gorebridge.

Firefighters were called to deal with the chemical incident.

A Midlothian Council spokeswoman, said: “We are currently working with the fire, ambulance and police on an incident at Stobhill depot.”

“Due to public safety measures Stobhill Depot and Stobhill Road are currently closed. Investigations are underway.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Midlothian were called to Stobhill household recycling centre at about 10:00, following a spill of hazardous material.

“Police are currently assisting the fire service in managing the scene.”
