The contract is potentially extendable to up to eight years in total, for the treatment and disposal of 40,000 tonnes per annum of residual waste.

“40,000 tonnes of residual waste per annum from both authorities will be treated and disposed of using Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) and landfill disposal”
Under the new treatment and disposal contract, around 40,000 tonnes of residual waste per annum from both authorities will be treated and disposed of using Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) and landfill disposal.
Around 80 percent of the waste will be sent for treatment at New Earth’s integrated MBT and renewable energy facility in Avonmouth, Bristol.
The remaining waste, not suitable for treatment, will be sent to landfill.
Richard Brooke, commercial director for New Earth said: “New Earth is delighted to have been awarded this residual waste treatment and disposal contract from Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen County Borough Councils. It’s a particularly exciting time for New Earth and its customers as refuse derived fuel produced by Avonmouth MBT facility is being used to recover renewable and low carbon energy in an adjacent new plant using New Earth Advanced Thermal (NEAT) technology.”
