The Waste and Resources Action Plan (WRAP) and Valpak are to carry out market research for wood packaging.

Following an open tender call, WRAP has commissioned Valpak to conduct new research on wood packaging flows.

The work follows on from previous WRAP/Valpak projects studying the material flows for glass, metals and plastic and an active project examining paper and card packaging.

The wood flow project will provide Defra with robust and independent updated estimates of the amount of wood packaging placed on the market (POM), and the amount of wood packaging recycled, recovered or sent to landfill for the period 2014.

These estimates will be central to Defra’s policy development and are used to fulfil EU requirements for reporting recycling performance for the UK.

The project will also develop scenarios for projecting POM and recycling figures up to 2020.

In order to achieve the objectives of the work, Valpak has established a steering group made of industry, Defra and Environment Agency members to oversee and provide insight into the outputs.

The project will report in Spring 2016.

Paper And Card

WRAP also commission Valpak for its paper and card flow project, which aims to provide Defra with robust and independent updated estimates of the amount of paper and card packaging placed on the market (POM), and the amount recycled, recovered or sent to landfill for the period 2014-2020 in the UK.

In order to help achieve the objectives of the work, Valpak has established a steering group made of industry, Defra and Environment Agency members to oversee and provide insights into the outputs.

The project will report in early 2016.
