Amey Investing In Waste Treatment Facilities

Amey is continuing to grow its capabilities in the waste treatment sector, following plans recently submitted for a new £200m facility in Cambridgeshire that will produce energy from waste.

Amey submitted a planning application for the new development at its existing Waterbeach Waste Management Park in Cambridgeshire at the end of last year. If approved, the facility would be used to generate energy from household and commercial waste – either in the form of electricity, heat or a mix of both – and create more than 300 jobs during construction and through operations.

Amey’s environmental services managing director, Rob Edmondson, said: “This is an exciting period of investment and development within waste services as we explore innovative waste solutions and technologies.

“This is an exciting period of investment and development within waste services as we explore innovative waste solutions and technologies.”

“We already operate a range of waste treatment facilities at our Cambridge site including, mechanical and biological treatment, materials recycling and in vessel composting.  The proposed energy from waste plant will process residual outputs which otherwise would have gone for landfill.

“Submitting our planning proposal signifies a continuing investment in our waste treatment capability in Cambridgeshire, providing us with the opportunity to create a sustainable, merchant energy from waste management park in Cambridgeshire, allowing us to reduce the volume of waste being landfilled, as well as create enough electricity to power 63,000 homes.”

The proposed facility in Cambridgeshire would have a maximum capacity of 250,000 tonnes pa. The buildings would range in height from 12 to 42 metres, with a stack of 80 metres.

The planning application has been submitted to Cambridgeshire County Council’s Planning Authority following a community consultation and a decision is expected in Summer 2018.

Ground Breaking Ceremony For Craemer UK’s New Factory

Craemer intends to develop its new factory at Hortonwood West, creating up to 70 jobs and safeguarding the 65 posts at its existing Telford site.

This purchase is part of the Telford & Wrekin Council and Homes and Communities Agency Land Deal, aimed at bringing forward spare industrial land for development.

Since the launch of its existing Telford factory in 2006, Craemer UK Ltd has grown significantly with turnover increasing 500% to £25.5m in 2016.

The company has been looking to expand its existing site in Hortonwood 1 but have been constrained by the nearby A442 and adjoining occupiers.

“In addition to creating new jobs and further supporting the local economy, the development of this second Craemer Telford site underlines the Craemer Group’s ongoing commitment to its UK manufacturing arm.”

Steve Poppitt, managing director of Craemer UK Ltd, said: “This latest significant investment by our German parent company represents an important step in the continual development and expansion of our UK manufacturing operation. We continue to build on the remarkable success and growth we have achieved since the opening of our Hortonwood factory in 2006.

“In addition to creating new jobs and further supporting the local economy, the development of this second Craemer Telford site underlines the Craemer Group’s ongoing commitment to its UK manufacturing arm.”

Karl Tupling, General Manager for the Midlands for the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), added: “The Telford Land Deal is giving Telford & Wrekin Council the opportunity to take responsibility for the marketing and disposal of remaining HCA land holdings.

“It’s fantastic to see Craemer mark the start of work on a new factory in Telford, which is one of a series of investments helping to secure jobs in the town. This in turn means increased demand for new homes and the HCA is also working closely with Telford & Wrekin Council to develop significant housing in Telford.”

Gill Hamer, Director of the Marches LEP which secured the Marches Growth Deal, of which the Land Deal is an integral part, said: “It is fantastic to see a specialist manufacturer like Craemer chose to grow its already successful business in Telford and in doing create and safeguard a significant number of jobs.

This demonstrates the rich wealth of skills available within the Marches region and will encourage other businesses to invest and grow here. However, by expanding its business on land released through the Land Deal which sees the receipts from sales of HCA land in Telford invested locally, this development will have a positive effect across the whole of the Marches.”

Vision Techniques Offer Free E-Learning Videos

Award-winning vehicle safety specialists Vision Techniques launched a catalogue of E-learning video guides for their vehicle DVR “VT Record”. The videos are completely free and can be viewed by anyone.

The videos were created by the safety company to help teach customers – including managers, administrators and drivers – how to confidently use their recording system and get the most from the systems features – like vehicle tracking and live streaming.

The launch of the video catalogue is the first time an ancillary systems provider has offered a digital solution to product training that will improve product integration and system awareness.

“If we can make our systems easier to use, understand and take advantage of across an entire company by producing these videos, then why not?”

“Our experience with E-learning has been a bit like opening Pandora’s box. Now we can produce these how-to-guides in-house, there’s nothing stopping us covering our entire range of vehicle safety systems, and we can work with our bigger customers to create tailored content. It’s very exciting.” Explains Marketing Manager Dominic Benabda.

The company plan to explore the possibilities of customer driven tailored content in the coming weeks, with British Gypsum being the first to request a ‘BrakeSafe’-specific E-Learning guide.
