Greggs and Too Good To Go announce they have prevented five million meals from going to waste across the UK.

British bakery Greggs partnered with food surplus marketplace Too Good To Go in 2021 to redistribute surplus food from over 2,000 stores.

Greggs and Too Good To Go announced they have redistributed five million ‘Surprise Bags’ containing surplus food. Each bag contains food nearing its sell-by date, available at a reduced price.

Customers download the Too Good To Go app, search for their nearest Greggs store, reserve Surprise Bags, and pick them up at a preset time.

A spokesperson from Greggs said: “This partnership supports our Greggs Pledge to reduce food surplus and make a positive impact on the planet.

“Together with Too Good To Go, we’re helping to fight food waste while offering our customers great value every day.”

By saving five million Surprise Bags of surplus food from going to waste, Greggs and Too Good To Go say they have collectively helped to avoid the equivalent CO2e emissions that it takes to ‘fly around the world 2,346 times’.

Sophie Trueman, Country Director UK & Ireland, Too Good To Go, said: “We couldn’t be prouder of this milestone of five million Surprise Bags saved with Greggs.

“Reducing food waste is a real team effort and it’s only made possible by working with partners like this iconic British food brand.

“Every bag saved moves us one step closer to tackling climate change and we are thankful to our partner and consumers for being part of that journey.”
