The Earthshot Prize announced its five 2025 winners at an awards night at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Awards were hosted by Brazilian broadcaster Luciano Huck, and the night also featured performances from Anitta and Kylie Minogue.
As in previous years, the five winners were selected by Prince William and fellow members of the Earthshot Prize Council, which is chaired by Christiana Figueres, widely considered the architect of the Paris Climate Accord.
The winners, one in each of the five Earthshots categories, will be awarded £1 million to advance or replicate their work.
Lagos Fashion Week, which has grown to become one of Africa’s largest and most influential fashion events, won in the ‘Build a Waste-free World’ category.
Now in its 15th year, every designer wishing to show at Lagos Fashion Week must demonstrate their commitment to sustainable practice, including how materials are sourced and dyed, and how garments are produced and transported.
Lagos Fashion Week also invests in programmes focused on strengthening local supply chains, reviving native craftsmanship, and turning waste into valuable material.

Lagos plans to use the prize money to replicate its model across five fashion weeks in Kigali, Dakar and Accra by 2030.
As well as the prize money, each of the 15 Earthshot Prize Finalists will receive support to scale their projects, including access to the Prize’s global platform and Global Alliance.
The winner for the Protect and Restore Nature category was re.green. Headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, re.green combines AI, drones and satellite imagery with ecological and financial data to quickly identify land in the Atlantic Forest with the biggest potential for restoration.
This year’s cohort was selected from nearly 2,500 nominees submitted by the Prize’s network of 575 nominators from 72 countries.
The 15 Finalists were chosen based on assessments undertaken by The Earthshot Prize’s selection partners and Expert Advisory Panel, a global group of more than 100 subject-matter experts with backgrounds in conservation, science, technology, business, finance, academia and policy.
