Southall recycling centre fire causes travel chaos

Travel delays

A serious fire at a recycling centre in Southall is now under control after causing severe travel delays on Sunday night.

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters responded to a fire at a recycling centre in Southall last night (11 January).

The London Fire Brigade said around 15 tonnes of mixed recycling was alight and the cause of the fire is currently unknown. Firefighters had the blaze under control by around 20:30.

Due to smoke, the nearby Great Western Main Line was partially closed as a precaution. This caused severe travel delays to and from Heathrow Airport.

The Fire Brigade said control officers have mobilised crews from Southall, Hayes, Feltham and surrounding fire stations to the scene.
