Waste management company SUEZ installs ‘pioneering’ UV tag reading and sorting system at its materials recycling centre in Avonmouth.
The UV detection module from Polytag integrates with the commercial sorting line at SUEZ’s facility to identify packaging.
The system combines invisible UV watermarks that uniquely identify packaging with Pellenc ST’s advanced near-infrared sorting capabilities, enabling real-time, accurate sorting and providing better visibility into material flows for recyclers and brand owners.
SUEZ says the development at its Avonmouth facility is a step toward large-scale adoption of digital watermark technology in the recycling process across European facilities.
Commenting on the Stuart Hayward-Higham, Chief Technical Development and Innovation Officer at SUEZ in the UK, said: “We are proud to be the first recycling centre to host this innovative module on our sorting line.”
“The technology will give us richer insight into the composition of the packaging we process, helping us in the long term to optimise operations and deliver higher quality recyclates to our customers.”
