Latest AMCS Platform To Showcase At RWM

Global supplier of integrated software and vehicle technology for the waste, recycling and resource industries, AMCS, will showcase the latest version of its AMCS Platform at this year’s RWM Exhibition.

The enterprise grade, cloud based, platform brings together AMCS’ six core solution ranges:

Integrated into a fully comprehensive solution, the cloud-based Partner Engagement module is future proof. The solution automates each stage of the partner life-cycle from initial sourcing to managing jobs and invoicing.


Amey Welcomes First Front End Loading Waste Vehicle To Commercial Fleet

Amey has invested in its first Mercedes-Benz Arocs Tridem Front End Loading (FEL) waste collection vehicle which will be operating as part of Amey’s waste collection fleet – with the of improving safety for workers and other road users as well as increasing the efficiency of our collection service.

The 32 tonnes, 38m³ Frontpress refuse collection vehicle will be servicing Amey’s commercial waste clients in Cambridgeshire. Due to its large storage compartment capacity and even bin-loading capabilities, it is ideal for collecting large volumes of solid waste in commercial environments.

This versatile commercial vehicle also makes the collection of waste safer for operatives, as the driver can control the approach and emptying operation using a joystick and infrared technology from inside the cab. This reduces the risk to operatives and eliminates any direct contact with waste materials.

“The Faun Frontpress FEL vehicle will be servicing our commercial waste customers in Cambridgeshire and is part of a £12million investment we’ve been making within our fleet. This vehicle not only reduces the risk of harm to our people but also enables us to service larger commercial waste businesses.

This vehicle – and others in Amey’s fleet across the UK – have the latest cycle safety equipment. Drivers receive an audible warning if a cyclist or pedestrian is attempting to pass between the vehicle and the kerb.

From the cyclists’ perspective, there are clear eye-level cyclist hazard lights, along with an audible ‘turning left’ warning sound and white noise reverse alarm. The vehicle also has LED flashing lights at the front, back and sides as standard.

This technology is not only keeping people safe, but reducing minor incidents and insurance claims and therefore offering cost benefits to Amey and its clients.

The next phase is to swap out all rear operating vehicles in Cambridgeshire to front loading over the course of the next 12months.


Ridgway Adds Further JCB Models To Its Waste Hire Fleet

Shropshire-based plant hire specialist, Ridgway Rentals, has added three new JCB machines to its growing fleet of waste handling equipment.

JCB dealer, Gunn JCB, supplied a model 457 wheeled loader, a JS20MH wheeled material handler and a 560-80 Wastemaster Loadall. The deal was funded through JCB Finance and Gunn JCB will provide full warranty and service back-up nationwide through the JCB dealer network – no matter where in the UK the machine is working.

The all-new JCB 457 features a powerful new MTU diesel engine, while its CommandPlus cab delivers outstanding operator comfort and productivity.

Meanwhile, JCB’s JS20MH wheeled material handler is designed to maximise productivity and safety. It produces its peak power and torque at low revs and features various maintenance-saving devices that ensure optimum uptime.

Ridgway’s other new addition – the 560-80 Wastemaster Loadall – is the highest capacity machine in the JCB Loadall range. With 6,000kg of lifting capacity and its powerful EcoMax engine, the 560-80 assures high operational output.

All of the new acquisitions will go straight into Ridgway Rental’s nationwide fleet of specialist waste handlers which the company offers through its recently launched waste hire division.

Ridgway’s waste hire fleet includes an extensive range of specialist equipment from loading shovels to reach excavators, which, unusually for the waste hire sector, the company rents out on both long and short term contracts.

Stuart Jones, Ridgway Rentals’ managing director, said: “We are investing in waste handling machinery that is not commonly available on spot hire contracts but is often required to cover breakdowns or to work on new projects.”

Last year Ridgway Rentals invested over £2.5 million in 26 high specification JCB excavators – including a JCB Hydradig, JS131 and JS220 tracked excavators, JS145W, JS160W and JS200W wheeled excavators and eight tonne, zero tailswing 85Z-1 midi excavators.


Miles Smith Early Intervention Scheme Targets Employee Sickness

Employee sickness absence is a significant issue for employers in the UK, as it is estimated that the cost of work-related injury and ill health to British businesses in 2015/16 was £14.9 billion, according to the HSE (HSE – Health and safety at work statistics 2017).

At Miles Smith says it recognised the adverse impact that employee sickness absence can have several years ago, and developed the Miles Smith Early Intervention Scheme (EIS) to assist businesses address this risk.

EIS is underwritten by Aviva, and is a simple, proven product which provides fast track access to treatment for employees who are absent from work as the result of a physical injury, stress, depression or anxiety, to help promote a speedy recovery and return to work.

The CIPD Absence Management Annual Survey 2016 identified that four of the top five most common causes of both short-term and long-term absence are stress, musculoskeletal injuries, mental ill health and back pain, yet these conditions are frequently regarded as low priority by the NHS and patients can wait for several weeks to receive treatment. However, these are all conditions that potentially can be treated under EIS, the Miles Smith Early Intervention Scheme.

A further business benefit of early treatment is that it has a significant impact on Employers’ Liability insurance losses. The number of claims made can be reduced as employees appreciate the care provided and are less inclined to claim in the first place. Where a successful claim is made, costs can be reduced as employees are helped back to work more quickly.
