An investigation by the Greater Manchester Police and the Health and Safety Executive is underway following an incident at Viridor’s Longley Lane materials recycling facility (MRF), which in resulted in a man being hospitalised.
The incident happened late on Sunday evening (13 August) as the employee was working at the Viridor facility.
The extent of the man’s injuries have not been released, but the 29 year old man was taken to hospital with what is believed to be “serious injuries to his arm”, according to a Greater Manchester Police statement.
A joint investigation has now been launched by the Greater Manchester Police and the Health and Safety Executive.
A spokesperson for Viridor said: “Viridor can confirm an incident took place at 11pm on Sunday, August 13, involving a 29-year-old employee at the Longley Lane materials recycling facility. The employee was taken straight to hospital following the incident.
“Viridor takes the safety and wellbeing of its employees very seriously and is co-operating fully with Greater Manchester Police and the Health and Safety Executive.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News: “We were called at 11.15pm to reports of a work-based accident involving a conveyor belt.
“Emergency services were called and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his arm. A joint police and HSE investigation has been launched and remains ongoing.”
