Man arrested after hundreds of tonnes of waste dumped in Bromley

Bromley

A man has been arrested and four vehicles seized after hundreds of tonnes of waste was discovered on wooded land in Bromley.

An investigation was launched after large mounds of burnt waste were discovered in wooded areas known as Waldens Farm.

A council spokesperson said the amount of waste indicated that the dump was part of an industrial-scale illegal waste disposal operation.

The council’s Neighbourhood Investigation Officers, with support from the police, arrested a man in connection with the waste dump. Intention of closure notices were also erected at the site.

The green belt land, known as Waldens Farm, is made up of approximately 800 small ’leisure plots’, totalling roughly 70 acres.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Environmental crime is a serious concern and working closely with the council to support their work is part of the way that we help tackle this locally as part of the Bromley Safer Partnership.”

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the seized vehicles, which include two flatbed tipper vehicles, a mini skip van and a box panel van, could be crushed.
