Man Dies After Being Crushed At Cornwall Recycling Plant

A 23-year-old man has died after being crushed by a machine at a recycling plant in Cornwall, according to recent reports.

It’s understood the employee reportedly became trapped inside a baler yesterday (16 November) afternoon.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police and emergency services were called to H&A Hygiene Services on Cardrew Way, Redruth, at around 4pm on Thursday 16 November, with reports of a man trapped in the machinery.

“A 23-year-old local man was declared deceased at the scene. Formal identification is yet to have taken place, but next of kin have been informed.

“Enquiries are under way to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed of this matter.

“Police remain at the scene as part of their enquiries.”

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is assisting the investigation.

The news follows recently released HSE statistics, which revealed waste sector fatalities have almost doubled in a year.
