Mitchells & Butlers aims for 80% recycling with new Biffa contract

Biffa has announced a new three-year waste management contract with Mitchells & Butlers, one of the largest operators of restaurants, pubs and bars in the UK.  

The new contract, which is for three years, sees Biffa supporting Mitchells & Butlers to improve its recycling efficiencies. The contract covers their entire estate of over 1,600 pubs, bars and restaurants dealing with their food, glass, cardboard and general recycling.  

The contract, which was signed in October 2019, follows a successful partnership between Biffa and Mitchells & Butlers which has seen their current recycling performance reach 59%. 

The aim it to now increase its recycling rate to 80% over the next five years.

Future initiatives in the new contract will include national roadshows to promote best recycling practices within teams, educational materials to develop employees’ understanding of recycling goals and audits of individual sites to maximise recycling efforts.
