The Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM) roadmap shows planned developments from 2025 to 2030.
The roadmap provides a strategic overview of RAM development, and the intended material reviews over the next five years. All timings in the roadmap are still subject to change.
PackUK developed the roadmap with the RAM Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Guest TAC Members.
PackUK, known as PecynUK in Wales, is the scheme administrator for Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging (pEPR) in the UK.
The roadmap contains information on regular events like quarterly TAC meetings, annual four nations policy alignment reviews, annual publications of the RAM, and extended producer responsibility for packaging (pEPR) policy deadlines.
The roadmap also includes one-off deep dives into different material types, with the aim of assessing how RAM can better support those packaging materials and consider ‘industry innovation’ in future updates.
PackUK says the deep dives are in addition to the annual update cycle to ensure the RAM continues to ‘evolve to reflect industry trends’, while also ensuring ‘fuller-scale reviews’ of each material category.
PackUK sets and raises pEPR fees paid by obligated producers, and makes packaging waste disposal payments to local authorities in return for the delivery of collection and recycling services.
The organisation is also responsible for public communications and information campaigns that encourage the public to dispose of packaging waste correctly and not litter.
