Plans to develop a new ‘state-of-the-art’ recycling operations depot in Ystrad Mynach have taken a major step forward, with planning permission now formally granted.
The development forms part of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Waste and Recycling Strategy and will support the implementation of Welsh Government’s ‘blueprint’ collections.
The council says the new facility will allow it to process all kerbside recycling materials locally and will replace the existing operations depot in Tir-y-berth.
The depot and recycling facility will not process any of the authority’s household residual waste, with existing arrangements remaining unchanged.
The council called the decision to grant planning permission a ‘significant milestone’ for the project.
As progress moves to the next stages of development, the council is currently undergoing a two-stage procurement process to select a contractor to deliver the scheme.
Councillor Jamie Pritchard, Leader of the Council, said they were ‘delighted’ that planning permission has now been granted for ‘this important project’.
“This achievement reflects the significant work undertaken by council officers in partnership with organisations to address technical, environmental and infrastructure requirements,” Pritchard said.
“This investment will help transform the way we manage recycling in Caerphilly County Borough, allowing us to process materials locally, and provide a more effective and efficient service for our residents.”
The council says the development, which is being part-funded by the Welsh Government, represents a major step forward in future-proofing recycling services across the county borough.
