Reconomy has announced it is set to open a new £20 million closed-loop plastic recycling facility in Corby later this year.

International circular economy specialist Reconomy’s brand, Eurokey, will open the site, which it says will be one of the UK’s largest dedicated plastic recycling facilities.

The plant will receive several grades of plastic material from supermarkets, retailers and grocers and recycle it into plastic pellets ready for manufacture into plastic packaging.

The construction phase for the facility is almost complete, and it is expected to become fully operational in the second half of 2026.

At full capacity, Reconomy says the site will be able to recycle 38,000 tonnes of plastic material annually and will also create over 30 new jobs.

Commenting on the announcement, Mike Benton, Recycle Loop Managing Director of Reconomy, said: “This facility will play a major role in increasing domestic recycling capacity and reducing reliance on virgin plastic by keeping high-quality material in circulation. It will also benefit the local economy.”

51% of plastic packaging is currently recycled in the UK, with the country still heavily reliant on exporting plastic material due to the lack of domestic infrastructure.
