A man who dumped household waste around Stonehenge and Tidworth has been fined £2,000 by Wiltshire Council.

The man was caught on CCTV dumping the waste less than two miles from the nearest household recycling centre.

The footage, which captured his face and vehicle registration, shows the man dumping black bags of household waste and chairs.

The incident occurred within the Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA), the UK’s largest military training ground, which covers around 11% of Wiltshire.

The offence was investigated as part of a joint operation between Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire Police, HQ SPTA, and Landmarc, the Ministry of Defence’s contracted land management partner, against illegal waste disposal within the SPTA.

The Council were able to link a second fly-tip to the same person who has now paid two £1,000 FPNs in full.

Commenting on the fines, Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “There are plenty of simple, legal ways to dispose of household waste – including using regular kerbside collections or visiting a household recycling centre.”

“Choosing instead to dump waste is irresponsible, damages our environment, and leaves others to deal with the consequences.”
