Urbaser Awarded Contract For Tunbridge Wells & Tonbridge & Malling

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council have awarded an eight-year contract for a new recycling and waste collection and street cleansing service to Urbaser Ltd. 

The new contract, which will begin on 30 March 2019 in Tunbridge Wells and on 1 March 2019 in Tonbridge and Malling, will see Urbaser Ltd providing a “greatly improved” recycling service to 101,000 homes as well as enhanced street cleansing services across both boroughs, it says.

Cllr Ronen Basu, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Sustainability, says: “Before appointing Urbaser we carried out a rigorous procurement exercise over a number of months. The criteria we used in selecting Urbaser ensures residents are given a high-quality service that offers value for money and introduces new elements to the service that we know households will benefit from.”

Although the contract will begin in March 2019, initially services for both councils will continue as normal while the logistics of the roll out of the new collection service are finalised.

Residents will be kept fully informed and further announcements regarding the start of the new service will be made in the coming months.
