Unpacking Simpler Recycling developments: The impact on local authorities

 

This week has seen some big movement in the Simpler Recycling policy, Circular Online unpacks these developments in detail in this video.

As part of Simpler Recycling, most councils are required to implement weekly food waste collections by 31 March 2026. Defra has now announced it is providing £295 million in funding for local authorities to support them to introduce these collections.

This week, a survey by the Local Government Association has also found that 67% of local authorities are not confident they will hit their net zero targets.
