Veolia will provide household collection services to over 73,000 residential properties on the Isle of Wight after being awarded a two-year contract by the local council.

Beginning in April, waste management company Veolia is set to provide household collection services and manage the two household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) on the Isle of Wight.

Veolia will also operate and maintain the Council’s waste infrastructure, including the Energy Recovery Facility and Materials Recovery Facility.

Following the early exit of a previous contractor, Veolia and the Isle of Wight Council have been working over the past few months to ensure essential services continue on the island.

Commenting on the contract, Natasha Dix, Isle of Wight Council, Service Director for Waste, Environment, and Planning, said: “The Isle of Wight Council’s priority is, and always will be, providing a reliable, efficient and environmentally responsible waste service for our community.”

“Our residents are already some of the most committed recyclers in the country, and this switch marks the next step in supporting the Island’s passion for protecting our beautiful environment.”

Veolia has 18 integrated waste management contracts with local authorities across the UK, including the nearby Hampshire contract.

Ben Slater, Veolia Regional Director, Treatment South, commented: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with the Isle of Wight Council and are ready to deliver essential, sustainable and high-quality services to residents and businesses across the Island.”
