Councils in England are expected to increase spending on waste and recycling by £200m, a growth of 5%, according to published figures.
Data released by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) suggests local authorities in England have for the coming year budgeted £3.6bn for waste collection, recycling and disposal.
This up from £3.4bn in 2015/16 and takes into account charges, fees and sales.
The cost of recycling in 2017-18 is expected to reach circa £611m, according to the data. £590m was spent of recycling in 2015-16 and £569m in 2016-17.
Waste disposal expenditure has risen over the past three years, from £1.97bn to £2.17bn.
Expenditure on waste collection has remained similar over this time. For 2017-18 it stands at £841m.
